Writer + Editor



I’m a New York-based narrative journalist with a deep knowledge of Chicago, where I lived for nearly a decade. I don’t “create content.” I tell stories. Broadly, my work fits into the lifestyle category; recently, I’ve written features on the tech race to make plant-based burgers taste like beef (New York Magazine), the fresh way one non-profit in Indianapolis is thinking about trash (The National) and the economics of a $15 non-alcoholic cocktail (New York Magazine).

I grew up near Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and went to Northwestern University’s journalism school. Before going freelance, I was the deputy editor of the food section at the Chicago Tribune; before that, I edited features about politics, social issues, science, art, theater, film, music and comedy for Time Out Chicago.
